Mammaries- I mean Memories...

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 6, 2009, 5:53 PM

Been feeling fairly well for a while- and creativity has been reborn. In my mind's eye, ideas are cascading frantically whenever I stop to watch and listen....
So- after discussing it with me, myself, and I, we've decided I need to start writing again. I'm burnt out on writing live show reviews (I'm ALWAYS going to LOVE shooting the band pics- yum) , and I've stalled at Chapter 4 of my Science Fiction novel. Yeah, science fiction is my ULTIMATE genre to read- and eventually finish writing...

So, anyway- I was browsing a Reader's Digest, and there was an article on writing memoirs.... yeah, whatever you're thinking (like anyone reads my journals) I thought the same thing. Reader's Digest? What? But, Hey! It's perfect bathroom reading!
I thought about it constantly the rest of the day, and the more thinking I did the more I realized that I have a lot of amazing life stories to share. Even if the only people that ever get to see it are my daughters, granddaughters, future descendants, and ever loving husband, I need to put at least some of my life in print. I have seen, done and orchestrated some pretty wild, life altering, HILARIOUS, and poignant stuff.

I'm not sure what exactly brought me to consider this. Maybe it's hitting the half-century mark last year, maybe it's the myriad health issues I must manage daily, maybe it's my adolescent vow to NEVER BE BORING. Aw hell, it's all of the above and then some. It is a fact that mortality is assured for us all. Despite the weird fact that the women in my family seem to live to be old and ornery despite alcoholism, smoking, cancer, etc., no one knows what's going to stop us DEAD in our tracks.
So, despite living with Lupus & Fibromyalgia, permanent nerve damage and chronic pain in my neck and spine from an accident in '01 (which by the way REALLY pisses me off when it interferes with the things I love!!), I have managed figure out how to achieve remission with nutrition, and have been very creative when it comes to the pain management part- (yay, Prop 215!!). Enough of that digression.

So, now I need to come up with a time period to focus on. My first choice is the years I was part of XL Flyer. I got to work on an underground 'Zine, learning how to put one together, taking over as Music Editor (and editor, photographer, writer, proofreader, ad sales, ad design, layout design, distribution- well, you get the idea), and learning to use a 1970's model Canon AE-1 manual SLR 35mm camera, all taught by my lover at the time (the publisher). I met him "applying" for a position on the magazine's "staph". He examined my portfolio of drawings and paintings, and took me under his wing. He patiently taught me the basics of photography, and took me to our local public darkroom to learn how to process and print. I threw myself into it, scouting for models ( we always had a nude centerfold tastefully shot in B & W Kodak film), cruising the strip clubs and live music venues. I had more success at snagging the cutest girls back then.... awww, those were good times. I learned a LOT, went wild, overindulged in everything and finally found myself.

Then again, I grew up in the 60's and 70's- graduated high school in '76, and embraced the total hippie lifestyle. God, I was so innocent then.... ditching school to surf the break in Imperial Beach, Pacific Beach, Torrey Pines... beautiful times.

Well, I have some more thinking and writing to do. Thanks for reading this, if you made it this far- bless you. Really, I mean it. And if you have read this- should I post a poll with the "eras" I want to focus on for my first "episode"? Never done a poll before.

I love you all!
